My New Adventure

As I type this post I am all at once thrilled and terrified at the idea of taking on a new adventure.  Having sworn I would never again start a business, God has shown me once again, that I am clearly not in charge of the plans He has for my life!  For a little while now I have had this idea swirling around in my head.  I have decided that is how God talks to me.  It is way too jumbled and chaotic up there for me to possibly hear anything else so He sticks ideas in there that I will think are my own.  It is only when I try to ignore them and they will not go away that I decide He might be trying to tell me something.  This idea just would not go away and the more I thought about it the more I started having more ideas and the more I started to love it.

I love to cook.  To say that so simply I believe is the understatement of the century.  I actually adore cooking, it is truly like therapy to me.  With 3 crazy children and a puppy running around, I am most at peace when I pretend they are not at that moment destroying my house, sword fighting with tree branches or competing to see who can most efficiently ruin my carpet (I am referring to the puppy and the 2 year old here).  I have so many times argued with myself about the fact that my house would be 100 times cleaner if I would not feel the need to cook so much, but I truly love it.  I love to feed people, it is how I show love.  If you tell me you have a favorite food, I am likely to find an excuse to make it for you.  If you are sick, I will make you soup.  Have a baby, I love to make you meals and then coordinate others to do the same.  Honestly people, it is a miracle that Jeff and I do not weigh 500 lbs each because my world revolves around food… planning meals, shopping for meals, preparing meals, eating meals, and the ever present and my least favorite, cleaning up after meals.  One thing I really love though is sharing food and recipes.  I love sharing with a girlfriend how easy it is to prepare this or that and trying to convince someone who believes they can’t cook that they can.

And so, from this love of cooking comes my new adventure, MY PREPPY KITCHEN.  Eventually, as we grow, MY PREPPY KITCHEN will be a lot of things but here is what it is for now:

  • Your own personal Prep Kitchen (get it???) Each week, I will post the meals I will be preparing for the next week.  I plan my family meals 1 or 2 weeks in advance so I can shop what is freshest and on special.  You simply place your order and will prep your meals for you.  You can set up delivery or pick-up.  All ingredients will be FRESH (no prepackaged, processed junk) & will be pre measured, chopped, pureed, or sliced for you.  All you will need to do is put it all together with easy to follow instructions.  You can order once a week or every day.  If you have it delivered, we can arrange for a cooler to be left for you.  It is that easy!  This is a great option for working parents or for those intimidated by trying new things.  It can be an easy way to learn new recipes without having to purchase all of the spices, herbs, or dry ingredients.  There will be new recipes each week with soups and some sides available all the time.
  • New Mama Meals If you would like a meal delivered fresh to a new mom, friend who is sick, or family who needs an extra hand, we have you covered.  We can do all the work, even cook it if you like.  The details are up to you, let us do it or we can supply you with the prepped ingredients and you just do the cooking (plus you get to deliver the hot meal!)  We will even be able to help coordinate groups who would like to provide meals for weeks at a time.  New Mama Meals will come packaged with a cute hand made rolled burp cloth!
  • Preppy Bakeshop Baking is how I really got started in my love of cooking.  I made many of my girlfriends wedding cakes and after having kids I fell away from it for a while.  Well, I miss it so it is back and I am loving baking all over again!  If you dream it up I can bake it and I can do custom cakes and cupcakes as well.  From my grandmother’s famous chocolate cream pie to a pound cake I literally just discovered last week, I can take care of all your baking needs.  Whether it is a birthday party with cupcakes or an elegant anniversary I love to get creative with cakes.  I can also do a variety of breakfast muffins, pastries, and breads which are great for office meetings and weekends with company.
  • Small Scale Catering I love to host a shower because I adore making the food.  If you need help with food prep for a small shower, party, or just a dinner in with friends, let me help!  What would be better than dinner at home with wine and your best girlfriends but you don’t have to cook or clean up?

    • Thank you so much Claire! That means a lot. I am the same way. I get very emotional and excited for people when I know they are doing something they love. Hope your new business is off and running as well!
